Inspiration

This is a film about a taxi driver who becomes obsessed with killing a presidential candidate, but then goes onto violently save a very young prostitute. We took the idea of a person becoming obsessed and adapted it into our product. If you look at the film opening below its very slow, and tries not to give much away, until the end when it gives away some of his details. We plan to use this format to try and make the audience guess what’s going on.

Taxi Driver is a film that which watched to try and gain inspiration for our media project. It is a psychological thriller, on is about a taxi driver in New York who plots to kill a presidential candidate but ends up saving a young prostitute.

Fight Club is another film that we took inspiration from. It contains a very deep and cleaver storyline. It focuses on a character with insomnia and feels alienated from the rest of society. He seems to also become obsessed with this idea of a fight club and going to support groups, which make him believe he is getting slightly better.

What we took from Fight Club was the idea of making our main character feel alienated from the rest of society. Also to trying to show her way of dealing with it compared to the fight clubs. So we put the music star in the place of the ways Fight Club portrays. The ideas that we took helped to give us different aspects to our night character.

Treatment

A fan becomes increasingly obsessed with a well known R'n'B artist. She begins by going to performances and attempting to get autographs, her passion for him then develops into an unhealthy craving, to know his every move. The artist receives taunting letters, emails and phone calls from the fan and starts to notice her everywhere he goes, at first believing that she is just a dedicated fan. She attacks and kills the artist's driver and takes his place, driving him to a warehouse where he finds walls covered in pictures of him. The fan holds him captive and continues to psychologically torture him. As time goes by the affects of the fan begin to play with his mind and when the police finally find him he has to be committed to a psychiatric institution.

Audience Research

From this graph we can tell that the majority of our viewer's spend their spare time on the Internet, listening to music or watching TV/films. By knowing this, we can incorporate these media aspects into our films. For example, our villain could be stalking someone through the use of the Internet or our victim could be a film star/music artist.

As the 'villain' is the overall preferred character type we could use this to edit our film to the point of view of the villain.

We could also include a comical/sidekick character into our narative as these were also popular choices.

Seeing as R'n'B, Rock and Hip-Hop are the three preferred genres of music, this could be useful to us as we could link it to our results from what people do in their spare time. For example, if we decided to use a music artist as the main character, he/she could be an artist in one of the three genres.

As you can see from this graph, it is fairly equal however, mainstream has proven to be more popular. Because of this we could promote our film as mainstream, but including independent production values and ideas. We could do this by using the camera to show the film as seen from a characters point of veiw.
